Our Providers

Joa is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 25 years of experience

in emergency medicine as a nationally registered paramedic and registered nurse.

Together with more than 10 years as a paid firefighter, these experiences have shaped

his calm, practical approach to caring for patients and families in both moments of crisis

and throughout the long term. His career has taken him from Alaska to New Orleans,

central New York, and ultimately the Adirondacks, where he practiced in a critical

access emergency department before joining Adirondack Pediatrics.

Joa has a particular interest in adolescent health and development, and a passion for

mental health, sports medicine, and nutrition. He enjoys working with children and teens

and believes that building trust and making patients feel comfortable are essential to

providing excellent care. He is a member of the American Academy of Nurse

Practitioners, Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State, National Association of

Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and

American College of Sports Medicine, and is a national affiliate member of the American

Academy of Pediatrics.

Outside of medicine, Joa enjoys life in a small mountain town with his wife, daughter,

and Australian Shepherd. He lives to ski and is happiest on a bike, especially during

multi-day mountain bike adventures where big miles eventually lead to sleeping trailside

in the dirt.
