Thomas Akland, DO
After spending nearly 20 years practicing pediatrics out in the Midwest, Dr. Tom Akland is thrilled to be back home in Upstate New York.
A proud product of Niskayuna High School, Dr. Akland earned his Bachelor of Science with honors from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, followed by a year of volunteering at a rural health center in Appalachia. He then earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Michigan State University. After residency, Dr. Akland worked in the Kalamazoo, Michiga area where he helped to start a pediatric group in a rural health center. His dedication to expanding healthcare access for impoverished children earned him a special recognition award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Akland is board-certified in pediatrics and brings decades of experience to his work at Adirondack Pediatrics. He loves partnering with parents and watching kids grow from newborns into independent, thriving adolescents.
When he isn’t taking care of patients, you can usually find him spending time with his wife and their two daughters, lending a hand on the family farm, going for a run, or happily puttering around the yard.
